NEXT Passover Seder Rules

Below are the guidelines for how to register and host a NEXT Passover Seder. For more detailed information, please read through our FAQs

HOSTING

In order to host a NEXT Passover Seder, you must be a Taglit-Birthright Israel alumnus or former bus-staff (madrich or madricha) residing in the United States or Canada. Current employees of Taglit-Birthright Israel, Birthright Israel Foundation and Birthright Israel North America are also eligible to host Passover Seder meals. Passover Seder meals may not be co-hosted with other Taglit-Birthright Israel alumni (i.e., alumni may not individually register for meals and then combine their Passover Seder funds). Failure to comply with this rule may result in, at NEXT’s discretion, all concerned NEXT Passover Seder hosts being denied payment for their Passover Seder meals.

Current employees of NEXT, as well as their immediate family members are not eligible to host NEXT Passover Seder meals.

REGISTRATION

You must register to host your seder by Monday, Friday March 22,  2013 at 2:30 p.m. ET. NEXT Passover Seders may only be hosted on Monday, March 25, 2013 or Tuesday, March 26, 2013 to be eligible for reimbursement.

Steps to register and host a NEXT Passover Seder

  • Register here.
  • After you register you will be able to access your own personal Host Center on our website.
  • Print out your NEXT Passover Seder sign with your unique sign number.
  • Take one picture with ALL of your guests (one excluded as photographer)at your Seder meal, and the NEXT Passover Seder sign. Be sure to include all guests in the photo, as you will only receive payment for these guests.
  • If it is your practice to not take pictures on Yom Tov, you must take a photo of your Seder preparations (prior to yom tov) (e.g. your delicious food!), and your set table with place settings including your NEXT Passover Seder Sign. The place settings must correlate with the number of attendees you are claiming payment for. If there is a discrepancy, your meal will become ineligible.
  • Photos must include NEXT Passover Seder signs as noted herein. Photos without NEXT Passover Seder signs, with user-created (e.g. hand-drawn) NEXT Passover Seder signs, or with NEXT Passover Seder signs which have been digitally altered or added to the photo, will make the corresponding meal ineligible.

Steps required to receive payment following your meal:

  • Following your meal, you will receive an email prompting you to visit your Host Center.
  • At your Host Center, you will begin the payment process which will include submitting a Feedback Form and uploading your photo(s). As part of the feedback process, you will be asked to provide the names and email addresses or phone numbers of each guest for whom you wish to receive payment.

NOTE: If it is your practice to not take pictures on the first two nights of Passover, you must take a photo of your Passover Seder preparations (e.g. your delicious food, set table—surprise us!) and your NEXT Passover Seder Sign.

CHANGES AND CANCELLATIONS

You can change or cancel your meal in your Host Center.

If you decide to change your meal date, you must change the date by Friday, March 22, 2013 at 2:30 p.m. ET. Change requests submitted after will not be processed.

YOUR NEXT PASSOVER SEDER MEAL

  • Must take place on one of the first two nights of Passover (Monday March 25, 2013 or Tuesday March 26, 2013), and on the date for which you are registered.
  • May NOT be held in a commercial venue (e.g., restaurant, bar, office, etc.)
  • May NOT be held in conjunction with any organization (e.g., political, non-profit, etc.) and may NOT be held in any organization's work/meeting space.
  • May NOT be held as a fundraiser of any kind.
  • Must be held in the United States or Canada.
  • Each Birthright Israel alumni is eligible to host only (1) NEXT Passover Seder. All Co-hosting rules as written in the NEXT Shabbat rules also apply to NEXT Passover Seder program.

GUESTS

NEXT Passover Seder meals must have a minimum of six (6) people (including the host) over the age of 18.

  • You can host as many people as you’d like but NEXT will only pay for up to sixteen (16) people (including the host) over the age of 18. The NEXT Passover Seder program is offered to adults—we do not provide payment for guests under the adult age.
  • NEXT Passover Seders are about creating communities of young adults and therefore a majority of your guests must be made up of your peers. Family members may attend but may only comprise 25% of your guests.
  • NEXT Passover Seder meals must be offered FREE of charge to guests (potlucks are great, but are not part of this NEXT Passover Seder program).
  • Guests cannot contribute anything to your meal, as we are providing the necessary means to support meal costs.

PAYMENT FOR YOUR NEXT PASSOVER SEDER MEAL

NEXT pays up to $12 per person for at least six (6) and up to sixteen (16) people in attendance at your meal, including the host.

NEXT reserves the right to request and review your receipts before sending payment, and to pay based on those actual expenses.

Your NEXT Passover Seder may also qualify as a "contribution" that you may be entitled to claim as a tax deduction. The deduction amount which you may be entitled to claim is the difference between your actual expenses incurred in putting your NEXT Passover Seder together (including food and beverage costs), and the amount of reimbursement which you have received from NEXT, but only where your actual expenses exceed the amount of reimbursement. Please remember that the above information should not be considered tax advice and you should always consult an independent tax adviser concerning your specific tax situation.

You must complete and submit your Feedback Form and photo (s) within two weeks of your NEXT Passover Seder meal in order to receive payment. You can expect to receive a check via mail within six weeks of submitting your Feedback Form and photo.

Failure to comply with the NEXT Passover Seder Rules may result in your denial of payment and disqualification from future participation in NEXT Holiday programs or the NEXT Shabbat Program. These NEXT Passover Seder Rules and the terms and conditions of the NEXT Passover Seder program are subject to change at any time and without notice. Any and all such changes shall be at NEXT's sole discretion.
